Writing tip #1: Sentence length

Writing tip #1: Sentence length

Writing clearly generally entails appropriate use of tenses,
punctuation and grammatical structure. However, it is common to overlook
sentence length. Long sentences (i.e. more than 21 words) should be avoided because
they obscure the writer’s intents, hinder reader’s comprehension and can make
the text somewhat visually intimidating. Similarly, texts with short sentences
are uneven, unengaging and difficult to follow. What is the solution here? Use
a balance of relatively long and short sentences in your writing.
